Radford launches Radford Valuation Services, a new set of equity compensation valuation services in response to the latest equity expensing rules put into effect by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). Led by actuarial expert and thought leader Terry Adamson, the Radford Valuation Services practice provides a variety of cost-effective valuation and accounting services to help technology and life sciences companies better manage compensation expense under FAS 123(R) and related regulation.

The Radford Biotechnology Survey is expanded globally to meet the needs of multinational life sciences companies for reliable global market data. The re-named Radford Global Life Sciences Survey leverages a global job coding platform for 17 countries, including the U.S., to provide comprehensive data for positions at the executive, management, professional, sales and support levels, as well as overall practices.

Radford is recognized with a "Partners in Innovation" award by the HR Symposium, a Bay Area organization honoring extraordinary achievement in the human resources profession. John and Steve Radford accepted the award. The awards salute individuals whose efforts have advanced initiatives in the innovation and practice of people management. The annual event's theme was "The Best of the Best of HR."

The Radford International Survey is launched, initially collecting compensation and practices information for 12 countries. The first survey report is published in 2003. Country coverage doubles to 24 in 2004; expands to 36 in 2005; and increases again to 55 countries in 2006. Within three years of the launch, survey participation reaches more than 400 tech companies, including the top names in tech.

After an eight-year tenure in Cisco's HR department as a senior director, John Radford returns to Radford in 2002 as Senior Vice President, focusing on strategic clients. With his return, the Strategic Steering Committee is officially formed.

The Radford Benchmark Survey shifts from cash-only to cash-and-equity data collection for all incumbents. In 2005, Radford expands the equity piece to include restricted stock in addition to stock options, reflecting the industry's move towards full-value equity vehicles.

The Data Generator, the first online tools of their kind in the survey industry to offer fully customized survey results on demand, is introduced for the Benchmark Survey. Based on positive client response to the new tool, Data Generators for each compensation survey are subsequently developed.

Alexander & Alexander, Inc. is acquired by Aon Corporation, Inc. Radford Associates is renamed Radford Surveys.

The Radford Network®, a client-only extranet offering data, tools, and resources, is introduced as the first Web-based survey delivery site. The Network is now the hub of Radford survey participation, offering data, tools and resources to 6,500 users.

The first Radford Biotechnology Survey is published. Today, the Radford Biotechnology Survey provides comprehensive data for benchmark, executive, and overall practices programs for nearly 700 positions, 150,000 incumbents, and 525 participating companies.
July 1984
Radford introduces the Survey Input Manager (SIM) software product to replace paper input. Viewed as a major innovation in 1984, this diskette for inputting survey data had edit and validation features, making it easier to complete the input process. Shortly thereafter, Radford also launches First Resource, a complete micro-based HRIS system. First Resource is considered a predecessor to the HRIS systems used today.

A year after Don's arrival, the first Radford Executive Survey is published. This survey is now the definitive resource of competitive intelligence for executives in tech, with 700+ participating companies and data for nearly 80 positions.
July 1978
Senior Vice President Don York joins the team. One of his charters was to build an Executive Survey counterpart to the Benchmark Survey.
First Benefits Survey is released. This survey now provides verified benefits data from more than 350 companies in eight major benefits categories.

The first Radford Benchmark Survey is released - a manually-produced report with scissors, tape and a lot of heart. It is the first compensation survey on the market exclusively focused on high-tech companies. To date, the Benchmark database has grown to include 1.3 million incumbents from more than 1,000 participants and 350 job families.

Radford Associates is founded out of a Menlo Park bungalow by twin brothers John and Steve Radford with the idea that there has to be a better, more reliable way for companies in the emerging high-tech industry to exchange compensation information.
